USAW Girls Folkstyle National Championships & University National Championships

**USA Wrestling does not charge for adjusting weight classes, even at weigh-ins, so sign up early to guarantee your spot in the event.

USA Wrestling invites girls born from September 1st, 1995 through 2008 to the Freede Center in Oklahoma City for the 2015 Girls Folkstyle National Championships. This event showcases the quickly growing sport of girls folkstyle on a national stage. Last year wrestlers from 40 states participated in the Girls Folkstyle Nationals, and we expect the tournament to continue to expand.

Make your spring break plans for Oklahoma and earn the right to call yourself a national champion!

Also happening during the event, there will be a college recruiting fair for girls hoping to wrestle at the collegiate level. For information on the college recruiting fair, contact event director Archie Randall at arandall@okcu.edu.

The Women’s College Wrestling Association (WCWA) will be holding a recruiting fair on Saturday during the event.

Wrestlers who meet the U.S. citizenship requirements necessary for representing the USA in the World Championships and are the 2015 University National Champion in each women’s Olympic weight qualify for the 2015 World Team Trials.

Two certified coaches maximum allowed in each competitor’s corner. To videotape any match at mat side, the operator must be one of the two certified coaches in the corner.

Only the following individuals may participate as competitors in the 2015 University Nationals:

Students who are currently officially registered as proceeding towards a degree or diploma at a university or similar institute whose status is recognized by the appropriate national academic authority of their country.
Former students of the institutions mentioned above who have obtained their academic degree or diploma in the year preceding the event.
All competitors must be U.S. citizens. They must be at least 17 and less than 28 years of age on January 1, 2015. Athletes must have graduated from high school in 2014 or before. 2015 graduates are not eligible.

Weighin & Medical

Athletes must be present in a COMPETITION SINGLET and must submit to a skin disease screening prior to weigh-in. The chief medical officer has full authority without appeal in determining the eligibility of an athlete to compete.

In the event of injury or illness, NO contestant will be permitted to continue the competition without approval of the Chief Medical Officer, whose decision is final and not subject to appeal.

For Athletes wrestling in both the Cadet and Junior Folkstyle National tournament, the following weigh in protocol has been put in place.

·This weigh-in is for Athletes who will compete in Cadet and Junior Nationals.

·Athletes competing in Cadet and Junior will only weigh-in once for both events.

·Athletes are responsible for picking up both weigh-in cards in order to have single weigh-in count.

·This is contingent upon the athlete actively competing in the first of the two wrestling styles scheduled.

Registration & Weigh-in Procedures:

1. Wrestlers must pick up their weigh in card and proceed to the weigh-in line. A current USAW card needs to be shown at check-in.

2. Wrestlers must be in line at the beginning of weigh-ins

3. Wrestlers should only have a competition singlet on when entering the weigh-in area. They must submit to a skin disease screening prior to weigh-in. The chief medical officer has full authority without appeal in determining the eligibility of an athlete to compete. Parents/coaches cannot accompany the wrestlers. They will not be allowed to carry additional clothing or anything other than the weigh-in card with them during weigh-ins.

4. Weigh-in cards must be left in the weigh-in area. Do NOT leave the weigh-in area with your weigh-in card.

Uniforms

Collegiate or girls` singlet with underbriefs required. A sleeveless sport top is to be worn under the singlet (no T-shirts). The University women must have red and blue singlets, as is standard for freestyle competition.

The other option is to wear a two-piece uniform. Guidelines for the two-piece uniforms are as follows: wrestlers can wear compression or board shorts and a tight-fitting sleeveless, short, or long sleeve shirt. The shorts shall not be excessively baggy or have pockets, buttons, or snaps.

HEAD GEAR IS MANDATORY FOR SCHOOLGIRLS AND YOUNGER!

Rules & Bracketing

National Federation of State High School Association scoring rules will govern the competition for the Kids Division I, Kids Division II, Schoolgirls, Cadet, and Junior divisions.

Double-elimination line-bracketing with complete wrestle-backs to eighth (8th) place for the Kids Division I, Kids Division II, Schoolgirls, Cadet, and Junior divisions. True 2nd place matches will be contested if the wrestler who finishes 2nd has not yet wrestled against the wrestler who finished 3rd.

There is NO true 2nd place match for Juniors or Cadets.

When possible, wrestlers from the same state, club, or school will also be separated.

The University Women will be Line Bracketed and wrestle to sixth (6th) place with NO true 2nd place match.

Modified rule – 15 minutes minimum between matches.

Awards

INDIVIDUAL AWARDS

Awards will be given to the top 8 individuals in each weight class in the Kids Division I, Kids Division II, Schoolgirls, Cadet, and Junior divisions.

Awards will be given to the top 6 individuals in each weight class in the University division.

World Team Trials Qualifier

Wrestlers who meet the U.S. citizenship requirements necessary for representing the USA in the World Championships and are the 2015 University National Champion in each women’s Olympic weight qualify for the 2015 World Team Trials.
